(NewsNibs) - The national weather agency alerted residents of Huron-Perth and Grey-Bruce on January 4, 2024, about the incoming snow squalls. London, Ontario, is also bracing for a bout of flurries accompanied by gusty winds on Sunday. As the lake effect snow squall event persists, the predicted snowfall accumulations across the affected areas of Midwestern Ontario range from 15 to 50 centimetres by Monday evening.
Travel Advisory
With the impending severe weather, Environment Canada strongly recommends postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. The swift accumulation of snow, exacerbated by strong winds, is expected to create dangerous travel conditions, reduce visibility, and potentially lead to road closures across the region.
The specific weather forecast for London includes flurries and local blowing snow on Sunday with an anticipated 2 to 4 centimetres of snow accumulation. Strong southwest winds are expected to reach speeds of 40 km/h, gusting to 60 km/h, with a high of minus 8 and wind chills nearing minus 20. The conditions are expected to persist into Sunday night and Monday, with temperatures plummeting to a low of minus 17, and wind chill values reaching minus 26 overnight. The outlook for the upcoming week indicates cloudy skies with chances of snowflakes varying from 30 to 60 percent and daily high temperatures ranging from minus 7 to minus 12 degrees Celsius.
Residents Urged to Exercise Caution
As Southwestern Ontario prepares for significant snowfall and biting cold, residents are urged to stay updated on the latest weather reports and travel advisories. The community is advised to stay vigilant, ensure they have winter emergency kits readily available, and plan ahead to accommodate the frigid and snowy conditions forecasted for the region.
