(NewsNibs) - The upgraded MG ZS EV, first introduced in Israel as a gasoline vehicle in 2020, has had its price reduced by 5,000 shekels, bringing it down to 159,000 shekels. Potential buyers can further benefit from a cash discount of 2,000 shekels. Once the best-selling electric car at its launch until it was surpassed by the Tesla Model 3 in mid-2021, the ZS EV has now received a battery upgrade from 45 kWh to 70 kWh, resulting in an improved official drive range from 263 km to 440 km. However, supply issues have delayed the arrival of the updated model to Israel until this year, with significant numbers only expected from this summer.
Competition and Specifications
The MG ZS EV now competes with vehicles such as the BYD Atto 3, beginning at 165,000 shekels, and the Geely Geometry C PRO 480, priced from 160,000 shekels. The refreshed model showcases a sleek, modern sealed front and has dimensions of 1.65m in height, 4.32m in length, 1.81m in width, and a wheelbase of 2.58m. Inside, the driver's area features a 10.3-inch multimedia screen and a 12.3-inch digital dashboard. While the steering wheel is not depth-adjustable, the interior quality has seen enhancements, including improved shielding for the panoramic sunroof and new air-conditioning vents in the rear seating area, which offers generous space.
The trunk boasts a volume of 448 liters and includes an original spare wheel, while the vehicle's equipment comprises 17-inch alloy wheels, 360-degree cameras, wireless charging, and more. Additionally, the refreshed ZS EV has an increased power output from 143 to 156 hp, faster charging at a rate of 93 kW, and reasonable electric consumption, providing a real-world range of 360-370 km with moderate driving. Safety features are plentiful, though it lacks some newer safety technologies like rear collision warning or reverse collision mitigation.
Market Position and Future Prospects
Amidst the growing competition in the electric vehicle segment, the updated MG ZS EV strikes a balance between price and features. With its extended battery warranty of 8 years or 150,000 km, and vehicle warranty of 5 years or 150,000 km, it offers reassurances to consumers concerned with longevity and maintenance. Although road handling performance does show the model's age with only moderate comfort levels, the car's increased ground clearance of 17 cm and a spare wheel cater to the practical needs of drivers. The ZS EV's Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, enabling the charging of electric devices and other electric vehicles, adds to its appeal as a versatile option in the electric car market. With these updates, the MG ZS EV is poised to maintain its footing in Israel's increasingly competitive electric vehicle arena.
