(NewsNibs) - In the inaugural meeting of the session, the chairman of the Bill Committee, Narendra Basnet, introduced the Water Source Bill alongside other significant proposals such as the Urban Health Act and the Stray Animal Management and Control Bill. These legislative proposals aim to address various facets of local governance and enhance the urban infrastructure of Butwal. The Mayor, Khelraj Pandey, in his address, delivered the mid-term review of the fiscal year, underscoring achievements and outlining future plans. Pandey emphasized the municipal administration's commitment to transforming Butwal into a model city that epitomizes cleanliness, aesthetics, and environmental responsibility.
Enhancement of Healthcare and Education Initiatives
Mayor Pandey highlighted the municipality's development agenda, particularly in healthcare and education. The inception of two 15-bed hospitals featuring oxygen facilities is projected within the fiscal year. Furthermore, Amda Hospital is slated for an upgrade, with additional plans to commence classes in nursing and paramedical subjects. These steps are anticipated not only to elevate the quality of healthcare in Butwal but also to create job opportunities. Additionally, the Mayor's Mother Safety Program is set to provide cost-free services to birthing mothers at Siddhartha Child and Women Hospital in Amda. Various welfare schemes, such as monthly nutritional support for HIV-infected children under 18 and the provision of herbal supplements to nursing mothers, have been implemented, alongside a significant grant aiding complex medical treatments for residents.
Urban Development Efforts and Scheduled Assembly Proceedings
To reinforce Butwal's reputation in education, new courses and the establishment of requisite infrastructure are being planned, aiming to standardize the quality of public schooling across the city. The Butwal Technical Institute is advancing efforts to launch an undergraduate program in Civil Engineering, and procedures to establish an Agricultural Science College are in progress. Concurrently, environmental endeavors are underway, with ongoing tree plantations along roads and the launch of a 45-day cleanliness campaign to promote greener urban spaces. The next municipal assembly meeting is slated for Friday, where discussions on the proposed legislations and development plans are expected to continue.
The assembly session serves as a pivotal platform for Butwal's elected representatives to deliberate on legislative and developmental strategies, resilience building, and sustainable urban development. It reflects the city's proactive stance in fostering a healthier, more educated, and environmentally conscious community.
