(NewsNibs) - According to statistics released by Dubai's Department of Economy and Tourism, the city welcomed 2.22 million tourists from neighboring Gulf countries from January to October 2023, making up around 16% of all tourists during this period. Saudi Arabia and Oman were the top contributors, with Saudi Arabian nationals numbering around 930,000 and Omani visitors at approximately 860,000. Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain also made substantial contributions to the tourist figures, with Kuwait alone sending about 253,000 travelers to Dubai.
Dubai's Tourism Growth Metrics
The city's allure among Gulf States is largely attributed to the cultural and historical bonds, geographic nearness, and the extensive network of flight connections. Dubai also boasts unique tourist experiences, underpinned by innovation, safety, and exceptional hospitality, factors credited for its appeal. The recent report further amplifies Dubai's global tourism footprint, registering a total of 13.9 million international visitors in the first ten months of 2023, a 22% increase from the same period last year, and showcasing a recovery with a 3% growth from the pre-pandemic figures in the first ten months of 2019.
In tandem with the rise in tourists, the hotel sector in Dubai also experienced a positive trend, with hotel occupancy rates averaging 76%, eclipsing the rates of 71% in 2022 and 74% in 2019 for the same period. The increase in accommodation demand has been met with expansion in the hotel industry, with the city boasting over 149,000 hotel rooms across 818 establishments by the end of October 2023, representing a growth of nearly 4% compared to the previous year.
As the year approaches its close, Dubai continues to strengthen its status as a hub for tourism in the Gulf region. The sustained growth in tourism and hotel occupancy rates suggests an optimistic outlook for the emirate's economic vitality and its tourism sector's post-pandemic recovery.
