(NewsNibs) - The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, declared that the Benue State Executive Council has approved plans to build two overhead bridges at strategic roundabouts in Makurdi. This development aims to ease traffic congestion and enhance urban mobility in the state capital. The State Ministry of Works, Housing and Urban Development has been tasked to expedite the contract awards for the bridges at Wurukum and High-Level Roundabouts, marking a significant upgrade in the city’s infrastructure.
State Governance Reforms
In addition to the infrastructure projects, the government has unveiled plans to establish the Benue Public Service Institute (BPSI). The BPSI is designed to be a premier institution for the training and re-training of the state's civil servants. This initiative is to ensure that the workforce is well-equipped to manage the contemporary challenges of public service delivery. Furthermore, the BPSI will manage the State Civil Service Promotion Examinations, a move that signifies the state's commitment to regularizing and enhancing the promotion process within the civil service. This development comes as a strategic shift from the State Staff Development Center, which provided training exclusively to Local Government Civil Servants without extending these services to state civil servants.
Additionally, the Benue State government has ratified the restructuring of seven state ministries. This decision is aimed at aligning the ministries' functions with federal standards and ensuring they are attuned to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. In the realm of rural development, the Executive Council has approved the construction of three significant rural roads, with one road project allocated to each of the three Senatorial Districts, to further establish connectivity and boost economic activities in these regions. These approved road projects exclude Makurdi, where road construction work is currently in progress.
The series of approvals by the Benue State Executive Council highlights a comprehensive strategy to enhance infrastructural development and administrative efficiency within the state. The moves are expected to not only overhaul the traffic system in the state capital but also to lay a foundation for a more trained and capable civil service aligned with national governance goals. Moreover, the attention given to rural road development underscores the government's holistic approach to the state's progress.
