(NewsNibs) - As dawn broke on Tampa, the light rain that had been present in the early hours dissolved, giving way to slim chances for rain throughout the day. Despite this, the day remained relatively warm with temperatures peaking in the mid-upper 70s. However, the weather took a turn as the storms, which had arrived around midnight in Citrus and Hernando counties, pushed south over the next few hours. By Saturday morning, the rain had mostly subsided.
Threats from the Storm
The Storm Prediction Center had previously placed most areas in a "Marginal" risk category for severe storms, citing damaging wind gusts as the biggest threat. While an isolated tornado was also a possibility, it was not certain to occur. Following the storms, Saturday ushered in persistent clouds along with the arrival of cooler air, carrying high temperatures only in the mid 60s, a trend that continued into Sunday.
Impact on Local Events and Forecast
Residents were advised of the weather impact on local events with attendees of the upcoming Bucs game on Monday night being advised to bring ponchos. The forecast for MLK Jr. Day indicated an expected rise in temperatures to the low 70s along with potential showers brought by another storm system. Looking ahead, a front passing through on Tuesday brought a 60% chance of rain, with significantly cooler air anticipated to arrive in the middle of the following week.
The rapid change in weather conditions from warm and windy to cool and cloudy reflects the dynamic nature of Florida's climate. Residents and visitors alike are reminded to stay informed and prepared as the weather evolves.
