(NewsNibs) - At CES 2024, Samsung shared an ambitious vision for the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in enhancing connected technologies. Jong-Hee (JH) Han, Vice Chairman, CEO and Head of Samsung’s DX Division, emphasised the importance of integrating AI across Samsung’s product lineup, from visual display technologies to digital appliances, during a press conference. In the spotlight were Samsung's latest AI-enabled offerings, designed to cater to a broad spectrum of consumer needs and preferences.
AI-Integrated Products Unveiled
Samsung introduced a range of innovative AI-integrated products, headlined by the Samsung Neo QLED 8K QN900D. The flagship display features an NQ8 AI Gen 3 processor, bringing a significant leap forward with its AI Motion Enhancer Pro and Active Voice Amplifier Pro, and is integrated with Tizen OS Home. Adding to the lineup was The Premiere 8K, a cutting-edge projector boasting a 150-inch display capable of wireless 8K transmission, and the Music Frame, a customizable speaker that achieves harmony with Samsung TVs and soundbars through Q-Symphony technology. Reinforcing its commitment to accessibility, the Neo QLED 8K offers pioneering features like gesture-controlled sign language and real-time audio subtitles.
Samsung also intrigued the audience with Ballie, an AI robot capable of interacting with smart home devices and projecting multimedia content on walls. Attention in the kitchen and household sector was captured by the Bespoke 4-Door Flex Refrigerator, fitted with an AI Family Hub™+ and a 32-inch screen that not only identifies stored food items but suggests recipes and monitors expiration dates. The package of digital domestic convenience is further expanded with the Anyplace Induction cooktop and the Bespoke AI Laundry Combo™, each featuring smart 7-inch screens. Not to be outdone, the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo™ revolutionizes cleaning with AI smarts to navigate, identify, and clean varying surfaces efficiently.
Ecosystem and Accessibility Enhancements
A major stride in connectivity was revealed with the Galaxy Book4's enhanced integration with Samsung Galaxy smartphones, facilitated by Microsoft Copilot and the ability to use a smartphone's camera for webcam functions. Starting March, enhanced connectivity features will begin rolling out, with the new Tab S9 Ultra doubling as an additional PC monitor and pairing seamlessly with Galaxy Buds2 Pro. SmartThings took centre stage, with Jaeyeon Jung spotlighting the use of Spatial AI for creating personalized digital floor plans with LiDAR and the forthcoming 3D Map View. SmartThings will also introduce ConnecTime, video veterinary services, and a Workout Tracker, while Samsung Now+ will conveniently display essential information such as weather and security feeds.
Rounding off the smart home innovations, Samsung and Hyundai have forged a partnership to introduce seamless Home-to-Car and Car-to-Home services through SmartThings. Michelle Gattuso from HARMAN presented new driver experience technologies, including Ready Care, Ready Vision, and Ready Display for a safer and more convenient journey. On the security front, Samsung is bolstering consumer privacy with Samsung Knox Matrix and Knox Vault. In line with sustainability efforts, Inhee Chung introduced initiatives for the use of recyclable materials and certified renewed programs. Collaboratively, Samsung is advancing SmartThings Energy with Tesla for streamlined energy management within the home, making strides in both sustainability and smart living.
Underlying Samsung's expansive CES display is their unwavering dedication to accessibility. The company demonstrated new features designed for inclusivity, such as hands-free gesture controls, auto-generated captions for calls, and Relumino Together, a technology that allows people with varying vision abilities to enjoy TV side by side. With these advancements, Samsung underscores its mission to develop technology that respects diverse needs while pushing the boundaries of AI integration and sustainable innovation.
