MULTIPLE FATALITIES IN NORTH MARMARA HIGHWAY PILE-UP

(NewsNibs) - In the early hours of the morning, a severe accident unfolded on the North Marmara Highway in the Sakarya section near the location of Taşkısığı. Occurring around 04:45 AM, the incident was exacerbated by a dense fog enveloping the area, leading to a chain reaction crash involving seven vehicles. Among the vehicles were three buses and a truck. The calamitous event claimed the lives of ten people, while sixty-three others sustained injuries. Notably, among the injured were two Ukrainian nationals and one citizen of Uzbekistan.
DETENTIONS AND ARRESTS FOLLOW THE TRAFFIC DISASTER
Initial investigations into the crash saw the detention of seven drivers, including an employee of the Metro Tourism company who was driving a bus with the license plate 50 ACU 195. The detained individuals underwent procedures at the Adapazarı District Gendarmerie Command before being sent to the courthouse. Out of the several detained, three drivers – identified by their initials E.A., H.A., and M.D. – were let go after their statements were recorded by the prosecutor. Another driver, F.Ç., was released but subjected to judicial control.
Prosecution authorities subsequently arrested three individuals, H.Ö., O.K., and S.S., who appeared before a judge and now face charges of causing death and injury through negligence. These arrests took place as part of the ongoing response to the catastrophic traffic incident, which has prompted broader discussions on road safety and the importance of adhering to traffic regulations, particularly in adverse weather conditions.
