(NewsNibs) - The "Els Temps de les Arts" awards recognized the exhibition "De rerum natura" by the Centre d'Art Contemporani de Girona and music from the band Renaldo & Clara, among other winners. A total of eight projects were honored during an event that aimed to highlight the talent and innovation of creators in the area. The award ceremony, which coincided with significant anniversaries in Catalan culture, was directed by Lluís Danés and recorded at a historical prison, although the broadcasting platform remains unspecified.
A Broad Array of Categories
The awards spanned seven categories, reflecting the diverse cultural expressions within the Catalan-speaking regions. In Visual Arts, a transversal programming exhibit focusing on ecosystems and the climate crisis won the top honor, with Fermín Sales and Fundació Suñol as runners-up. The Kebyart saxophone quartet's fusion of contemporary and traditional music nabbed the prize in the Classical Music category. Meanwhile, Renaldo & Clara's album secured the award in the Popular Music category, with jury members applauding its innovation and risk. The Performing Arts category saw a tie with "nilak" and a piece on European identity both receiving recognition.
Excellence in Architecture, Heritage, and Experimental Cinema
Architectural excellence was showcased by LLOC Arquitectes and collaborators through "Casa Convalescència," a careful reconstruction of a 20th-century building. "Interiors" by the Museu de la Vida Rural, offering a peek into historical house interiors, won in the Heritage category. The newly added Experimental Cinema category celebrated Antoni Pinent's work, a unique collection of short films. In every category, both the winners and runners-up received recognition for their contributions to their fields.
The "Els Temps de les Arts" awards, while promoting cultural achievements, also honored the memories of Antoni Tàpies, Vicent Andrés Estellés, and Salvador Puig Antich through its timing. With awards that included an economic prize and a piece called "Gra de sorra" crafted by artist Perejaume, the event stood as a testament to the vibrant and ongoing contributions of Catalan creators to the arts.
