(NewsNibs) - The individual, whose identity has not been disclosed, was hiking on the Pedra da Onça trail when he fell on Tuesday. His plight became known on Wednesday afternoon when other hikers passing nearby heard his calls for help and alerted the rescue services. According to firefighters, the man informed them during the rescue that he had fallen a day earlier and was suffering from severe pain.
Difficult Rescue Operation
Due to the terrain's challenging conditions and poor visibility caused by fog, a helicopter from the Military Police's Águia unit was initially unable to reach the man. Firefighters were dispatched to reach the victim on foot through the treacherous forest. Additional personnel from Minas Gerais also joined the effort, approaching from the direction of Monte Verde. The combined rescue teams finally reached the injured hiker in the early hours of Thursday.
The man was discovered with multiple injuries and suspected spinal trauma. As soon as conditions permitted, the rescue team moved the man to a nearby cleared area where the PM helicopter could safely conduct an aerial extraction. Upon rescue, the victim received immediate medical treatment from an on-site doctor and was then transported to the emergency room of the São José dos Campos Municipal Hospital for further medical care.
Safe Conclusion of a Perilous Journey
The hiker's rescue comes as a relief to local authorities and residents, highlighting the risks associated with the region's trails. This incident serves as a reminder for trail enthusiasts to exercise caution in the densely forested areas of the Vale do Paraíba region. The successful resolution of this event is a testament to the dedication and skill of the rescue teams involved.
