In an effort to accommodate the festive surge and provide convenience to residents and visitors during the Christmas period, city officials have announced the suspension of paid parking zones. From today until December 27, both blue and green parking zones will be free of charge. This initiative aims to ease the hustle of the holiday season and will resume with free parking in these zones from December 30 to December 31, 2023, and on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2024. Other cities across Bulgaria are following suit by suspending their paid parking zones for the holidays, though specific details for each location have not been disclosed.
Adjustments to Public Transport Timetables
Sofia’s public transport system is adapting to holiday timelines, operating on a special schedule from December 23 to December 27. While most bus lines will observe the holiday schedule, a select few such as buses 63, 66, 67, H9, H10, 801, 802, 803, 804, and 805 will maintain a weekday routine on December 28 and 29. Despite the reduction in services where certain bus lines including numbers 7, 58, 68, 75, 103, 294, and 304 will not be available on these dates, all tram lines and metro lines 1, 3, and 4 will continue to run according to their usual weekday schedules, ensuring accessibility throughout the city.
Furthermore, the Center for Urban Mobility has released a comprehensive schedule detailing the operational framework for public transport on December 31 and January 1, thereby assisting residents and visitors in planning their travel during the festive period.
This holiday season, the city of Sofia aims to make travel easier and more affordable for its citizens and guests. The provided adjustments to parking and public transport are part of several initiatives designed to usher in a sense of comfort and joy during the final days of the year. As festive activities ramp up, these changes are expected to help facilitate smooth navigation around the city.
