According to the Russian Defense Ministry's recent statements, several Ukrainian military formations were repelled in various directions, including the Kupyansk, Krasno-Limansky, Donetsk, South-Donetsk, and Zaporizhzhia areas. Significant losses were reported by Russia to have been inflicted on Ukrainian forces—ranging from soldiers to armored vehicles and artillery equipment. In addition, the Russian forces claim to have captured two Ukrainian soldiers and successfully thwarted various armed engagements, destroying fuel depots and using anti-aircraft defenses to intercept multiple HIMARS rocket projectiles. Russian air defenses reportedly downed 20 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles in several areas.
Russian reports further claim that since the onset of their operation they have destroyed a substantial amount of Ukrainian military hardware, including aircrafts, helicopters, drones, and various armored vehicles. Meanwhile, CIT has estimated significant casualties for both Russian forces, including Wagner Group mercenaries, and Ukrainian military, with Russian losses believed to include approximately 82,000 killed and 220,000 wounded. Ukrainian military losses are estimated at 40,000 to 50,000 killed and 170,000 to 180,000 wounded. These figures align with those from open sources collated by Meduza, showing confirmed Russian and pro-Russian military structures' fatalities in Ukraine at around 38,300, with the caveat that actual casualties could be significantly higher. Furthermore, the Oryx project, which tracks confirmed losses of military equipment, records over 10,000 pieces of Russian military hardware destroyed.
The United Nations confirmed civilian casualties in Ukraine, noting over 9,000 deaths—among which more than 500 were children—and around 16,000 injuries. These numbers represent only verified incidents, and the UN suggests the actual figures are much higher. The Ukrainian authorities have declared tens of thousands of civilians killed, with notably high casualty figures in Mariupol as reported by local officials, exceeding 20,000. The diverse assessments of the situation underscore the ongoing challenge of obtaining accurate information amid the conflict.
