Controversy Erupts as FCSB Owner Criticizes Match Officiating in Draw against CFR Cluj

Filed under: Technology, News from Romania

(NewsNibs) - The aftermath of a 1-1 draw between CFR Cluj and FCSB sparked controversy as FCSB's owner, Gigi Becali, vocally criticized the match officiating following a disallowed goal by Florinel Coman. The owner argued that the goal should have stood, claiming his team had been wronged. Florinel Coman’s standout performance encompassed an excellent assist to Darius Olaru and a long-range strike subsequently canceled due to a prior sliding tackle by teammate Valentin Crețu on CFR’s Otele. The referee, Sebastian Colțescu, assessed the tackle as a foul and after consulting VAR, invalidated the goal.

Following the decision, Becali immediately expressed his dissatisfaction, contending that Colțescu erred in not awarding the goal and insisting that FCSB was effectively robbed of a victory. "We won. What interests me is how my team played—they won and were robbed,", Becali stated. He questioned the assessment, suggesting that the ball's movement after contact with Crețu made it clear that there was no foul by Otele. Despite his evident disappointment, Coman refrained from critiquing the referees' call, focusing instead on the regret that his goal had not been validated.

In the ongoing season, Coman has scored six goals in the league and one in the Conference League preliminaries. He described seamless teamwork with Darius Olaru in the match but offered no further comments on his disallowed goal beyond expressing his disappointment at the turn of events.

Additionally, Becali announced impending changes to the FCSB squad, indicating that players including Dorin Rotariu, Cristian Ganea, Valentin Crețu, and likely Damjan Djokovic would be leaving. Further reshuffling of the roster seems imminent as Becali plans new acquisitions, having already negotiated transfers for Luis Phelipe from Poli Iași and Baba Alhassan from Hermannstadt, costing €200,000 and €700,000 respectively. He also revealed his intent to procure two more players, a forward and a defender, hinting at an active transfer window ahead for the Bucharest-based club.
