Nepal's Inaugural Cruise Ship Resumes Operations on Narayani River

Filed under: Environment, News from Nepal

(NewsNibs) - After enduring a months-long hiatus due to the monsoon floods, Nepal's inaugural cruise ship has resumed its operations on the Narayani River, beginning to welcome passengers today. The hiatus, which began last June, was necessitated by the seasonal swelling of the river. Rhino Water Entertainment Pvt. Ltd, the company behind the venture, announced the resumption of the cruise ship’s services, offering travelers three daily shifts to navigate the waters.

According to the company's Executive Director Deepak Dhungel, the ship provides hourly cruise experiences, complete with onboard restaurant facilities. Dhungel emphasized that the services now extend to hosting various events, including wedding parties, birthdays, meetings, and seminars, with customized packages available. With a capacity to accommodate up to 150 guests at a time, the cruise also provides a range of experiences such as music video shoots, film productions, and photo sessions.

Rhino Water Entertainment Pvt. Ltd has introduced a special winter offer, reducing the cruising fare for a limited period. The standard charge for the cruise has been set at NPR 350 per individual, with a discounted rate of NPR 200 for children aged between five and ten years. The cruise, which started operating on January 15 according to the Nepali calendar year 2079, is the nation's sole cruise ship offering such a service.

Vikram Basyal, the company's manager, shared that while the company has permissions to operate from the sacred site of Devghat to Golaghat, current river conditions have only enabled a one-kilometer operational range. He also mentioned that the cruise could not sail to its full capacity due to changes in the river's course and the excavation of riverine materials.

Following the ship's operation, local tourism has seen encouragement, attested to by Hotel Association President Dinesh Kumar Shukla. With 2024 declared as 'Visit Bharatpur Year', the renewed operation of the cruise ship is expected to further attract tourists to Nawalpur as well and bolster the tourism industry. When possible, an expanded route from Devghat to Golaghat could transform the religious and water tourism in Nawalpur, Chitwan, and Tanahun areas.

Local hotelier Vasanta Parajuli from The Narayani Resort in Gaidakot anticipates a boost in tourism along the riverbanks due to the cruise ship, which promises to bring an increased number of visitors to the region.
