Multiple Schools in Slovakia Face Threats, Prompting Police Intervention

(NewsNibs) - Increasing concerns spread across Slovakia as several schools face threats prompting swift police intervention. Educational institutions, including the Albert Einstein Gymnasium, abruptly granted students a day off, followed by remote learning sessions, as precautionary responses to ominous emails received by four schools in Bratislava, Senec, and Žilina. One school in Žilina was notably ordered to evacuate.

At a press briefing, Slovak Police President Colonel Mgr. Ľubomír Solák addressed the grave situation, detailing police measures and investigative progress. The National Criminal Agency (NAKA) is actively investigating the incidents as a potential act of terrorism. "We are in close communication with the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic. An investigator has immediately initiated criminal proceedings," Solák announced.

Solák informed that substantial security precautions are being enacted to safeguard students, faculty, and residents. Police have scrutinized the affected school premises and their vicinities and continue their search to identify the perpetrator, working in conjunction with foreign organizations. "Tracing the source is challenging, but we're gathering all available information. I assure you that our officers are fully engaged throughout the country," he added.

The reach of the threats extends beyond the initially affected regions, with reports emerging in other Slovak counties, including the Bratislava and Žilina regions, as well as Prešov. "We've started receiving information in other regions, but the bulk of the issue is in Bratislava. We consider this a nationwide concern," he stated during the briefing.

The police have advised schools that specifically received threatening emails to remain closed until the risks subside. With the threat pinpointed for December 6th, there remains a possibility that security measures may extend further into the coming days.
