Brazilian Coastal Destinations Lead Holiday Travel Bookings

Filed under: Tourism, News from Brazil

(NewsNibs) - Coastal destinations within Brazil top the list for local travelers planning to celebrate Christmas and New Year's holidays, as recent data indicates a surge in bookings for domestic locales. According to tourism industry figures, there has been a significant preference for seaside spots, with a trend toward budget-conscious travel. Domestic flights registered a record-breaking number of passengers since 2015, and travelers are showing a strong interest in getting to know their own country. They are booking trips well in advance and actively looking for the best deals, which is also positively affecting the hotel sector.

Around 60% of holiday travelers opt for vacation spots that allow them to escape the December heat and partake in the tradition of jumping over seven waves. Nationally, four coastal destinations are particularly popular among those seeking seaside relief. Simultaneously, for those venturing abroad, North American winters are a draw, with locations near the sea still favored but the chill of Northern cities standing out.

Northeastern beaches are the most sought-after domestic destinations, with Porto de Galinas in Pernambuco and the city of Natal, the capital of Rio Grande do Norte, collectively making up 16% of the total sales of travel packages. Meanwhile, 5% of searchers are setting their sights on the wintry allure of New York City, placing it third in popularity.

Within Brazil, the charm of cold weather and festive Christmas shows bolsters Gramado in the state of Rio Grande do Sul to fourth place, matching New York City's appeal. The list continues with an international flair for idyllic beaches; Rio de Janeiro, Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, and Riviera Maya in Mexico each account for 5% of ticket and lodging sales.

Further down the list, Ilhéus in the state of Bahia, which boasts the longest coastline in the region, captures 4% of the holiday travel market. Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, claims the seventh spot, also garnering 4%. Not far behind, Foz do Iguaçu in Paraná finds itself in the tenth position, highlighting the diverse preferences of travelers during the festive season.
